The Balkan Line

Balkan Line is a 2019 Russian and Serbian action film. directed by Andrei Volgin. The plot revolves around a secret operation to seize Slatina Airport in Kosovo and Metohija during the NATO bombing of Yugoslavia. These events have become the most dangerous for worsening relations between Russia and the West since the Cuban Missile Crisis.

The film's plot revolves around a small detachment of 200 Russian soldiers who are inserted into a special operation in Kosovo and Metohija amidst the military conflict of 1999. Facing Albanian bandits and NATO soldiers, brave paratroopers are trying to hold the strategically important Slatina Airport and save Serbian prisoners who have a tragic fate. Russian Andrei Shatalov also has a personal motive—his girlfriend Jasna was captured by Albanians due to organ trafficking.

The film was shown in Russia on the 21st of March 2019, three days before the 20th anniversary of the NATO bombing of Yugoslavia. It premiered in Serbia on 19th March 2019 at the Sava Center in Belgrade.
