Vera

This series is a spy thriller with elements of melodrama, inspired by the true story of the Serbian Mata Hari, Vera Pešić (1919-1944), a spy from World War II. This is the story of a young woman who is not only caught in the clutches of a war spy network but also in a patriarchal society in the Balkans, full of powerful, arrogant men with whom she bravely and boldly contends. The series maintains a female perspective and explores the position of women in a male world—both traditionally Balkan and professionally espionage-related.

In the labyrinth of spy games in the Balkans, from Vienna to Constantinople, Vera Pešić survives among Yugoslav, German, and British spies with double and triple agendas, alone, without ideology, but determined to fight and survive.

Parallel to the action and spy storyline, the focus of the story is on Vera's intimate, psychological drama in the context of the secret of her origins, which shapes her relationships with men in her private life and spy career. Born from her mother's unclear relationship with a Chetnik duke, Vera lives with her inner drama of not belonging, which actually helps her transform from a confused provincial girl into a top spy who seduces and manipulates men, never allowing herself to become their prey.
